DuPont victim's daughter signs with Coon law firm

November 17, 2014, 3:00 pm

Brent Coon and Associates, the law firm that represented a woman whose parents were killed in the BP-Texas City explosion in which a total of 15 people died, will represent Jasmine Rae Wise, 34, of Houston, whose mother, Crystal Rae Wise, 54, of Groves, died in the weekend tragedy at the DuPont La Porte plant in which three others also died.

Coon also filed a temporary restraining order to preserve evidence at the scene.

"Our first goal is to preserve evidence and initiate our own independent investigation of what transpired. Internal company investigations are usually self-serving and protecting in nature and unreliable, typically pointing the finger at low level employees when the incidents are most often caused by management driven shortcuts," Coon said in a prepared statement.

Also, in the prepared statement released through the Coon law firm, Jasmine Rae Wise said, "We suffered a devastating loss of Crystle Wise during an on-the-job accident. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all the other families affected by this tragedy. We hope that closure will come with answers in future reports. Special thanks to all first responders involved in containment and recovery efforts."

In the 2005 Texas City BP plant explosion that took the lives of 15 workers, including James and Linda Rowe, the parents of Coon's client Eva Rowe, the law firm reached a landmark settlement on her behalf that included $44 million in charitable contributions to further worker's safety and burn treatment protocols.
